Detailed Information

Dr. Yohannes Gebreegziabher

Assistant Professor & Postdoctoral Researcher | Debre Berhan University

With over a decade of experience spanning clinical practice, curriculum development, and high-impact epidemiological research, I bring a multidimensional perspective to academic and clinical supervision. My academic journey—from a clinical nursing background at Hawassa University to a PhD in Mental Health Epidemiology from Addis Ababa University—has instilled in me a deep commitment to translating complex data into actionable health policy.

As a supervisor, I prioritize three pillars of development:

  • Technical Excellence: I provide hands-on guidance in advanced statistical analysis (Stata, R, SPSS) and specialized research methodologies. My expertise in validating psychometric assessment tools for specialized clinical populations allows me to support students through the most challenging phases of tool development and norming.

  • Strategic Research Leadership: Currently a Postdoctoral Fellow under the African Mental Health Research Initiative-II (AMARI-II) and a lead investigator on Wellcome Trust projects, I offer supervisees the opportunity to engage with international research networks. My work focuses on bridging the literacy gap in cognitive assessments within low-income settings, providing a fertile ground for students interested in global health equity.

  • Academic Stewardship: My experience in drafting national PhD and MSc curricula ensures that my mentees are not only technically proficient but also academically aligned with institutional promotion guidelines and national MoE legislation. I am a firm believer in the power of professional collaboration, a value recognized by the Schizophrenia International Research Society (SIRS) through their Early Career Award.

I am passionate about empowering early-career researchers to navigate the complexities of global academia, from securing travel grants to leading cross-disciplinary publications. My goal is to build a collaborative research environment where evidence-based practice meets transformative leadership.
